History of Dayco Painting Inc.

As the number of employees expanded hundred-fold, Dayco was forced from its bedroom operation to a 5,500-square-foot warehouse. While the company continued to outgrow its available space, owner Jim Gochenour was pulled into a larger facility.

He eventually scooted behind a desk at 114th and Longview Road, where he operated the company in a 10-by-20-foot warehouse. At this time, Jim wasn't alone.

Along with other employees, success also followed. Five years later, Jim set up shop in the entire building, pouring into 1800 square feet. The payroll had increased to 20 employees, but additional expansion wasn't far behind.

Today, Dayco is settled into a Grandview, Mo., warehouse with up to 100 employees. The new facility is just down the road from the bedroom office where the company once had its roots in 1980.

Dayco has been nominated four consecutive years for Kansas City's business of the year award. In addition to being a local business, Dayco is a respected member of the community. The company sponsors several events, including Little League baseball, mission trips and Sprint car racing. Dayco also is a member of the Builders Association, PDCA and Kansas City Commerce.
